There are a variety of methods by which a character can obtain technology that surpasses the ‘mundane’ level available to your common citizen.
Affiliation: Simply by belonging to a particular organization, or team, a character may have access to a variety of special items considered available to members in good standing. A character who happens to be a SHIELD agent, for instance, can access a level of special technology based on their clearance level, ranging from a standard field agent requisitioning a laser blaster, to Nick Fury himself taking a Helicarrier out for a spin. To find out what items are available to team members, contact that Team’s dedicated Storyteller.
Rewards: Based on performance in a particular storyline or scenario, a character may be awarded a unique piece of equipment at the discretion of the Storyteller. This can be due to a character’s clever actions, independent initiative in confronting a threat, or any other form of outstanding participation.
Purchasing: Some characters may possess the resources to simply buy special technologies from Non-Player Character sources, such as A.I.M., Hammer Industries, Roxxon, the Tinkerer, or other such mercenary suppliers of equipment far beyond the norm. These purchase generally tend to be highly illegal, but are often the preferred option for characters with vast resources, but no personal technical skills. A character’s range of purchasable technology is based on both what connections they possess to these sources, and the funds available to them. When seeking to purchase a specific piece of equipment, an application should be submitted to your storyteller containing the following pieces of information:
What is the desired Equipment?: This is where you state what the item should be capable of, in regards to its additional powers and capabilities. This should be as detailed as possible, stating its power intensities, appearance, and in room effect.
Why does my character need it?: In this section, you explain the need for the item, to allow your storyteller to determine whether it is, or is not necessary to provide as an additional upgrade to the character.
How is my character buying it?: Let your storyteller know who your character is seeking to buy this item from, and the level of resources you are willing to dedicate to the process. If unsure as to what sources exist, your storyteller can likely suggest potential candidates based on your character’s background. Predictably, the more money put into gaining an item, the better the item in question will be. Though it may take longer to acquire, and require additional sacrifices and favors beyond simple cash.
Inventing: The last, and generally most common method of acquiring exceptional equipment is for the character to invent it themselves. This, of course, is dependant on the character in question possessing the necessary skills for invention. Some characters, like Reed Richards and Tony Stark are literally made to create wonders of technology far above conventional possibility. Others, such as Captain America, or Daredevil, lack the Intellect skills necessary for the process, and must acquire any additional items they need through alternative methods like the ones listed above.
