The process of inventing technology, or constructing an item based on already existing designs, is fully detailed in following sections. In brief, the process follows the following series of steps:
- Calculate Inventing Intensity of Character: This formula determines the range of your character’s inventing capabilities. It determines both what is easy for the character to invent, requiring a relatively short invention process ,and what pushes their limits, requiring extended research time and dedication.
- Calculate Inventing Intensity of Desired Item: Determine how powerful of an item you intend to build, and how complex it will be to complete. The powers of an item, and its stunts and limitations determine the Overall Inventing Intensity Requirement of the item, which is then compared to the character’s Inventing Intensity to determine length of invention time, or whether it can be built at all.
- Submit Invention request to your storyteller: Your storyteller will then determine whether the technology requested can be allowed. Certain factors, such as room limits on allowable technology, or
Constructing technology from existing designs, or repairing existing, but inoperable equipment is much less intensive, following these general steps:
- Determine Overall Inventing Intensity of Item: The overall inventing intensity is the number of days required to construct, or repair the item.
- Determine Resource Level and character capability: The character’s resources, or the resources of the organization constructing or repairing the item can modify the time required to construct or repair significantly, up or down. Some items will require a base amount of resources to even attempt construction, while others may require the character to possess certain Intellect based skills to interpret the designs.
- Factor in Character Skills: Skills like Gadgetry, Construction, and Repair can modify the required number of days dramatically if possessed.
- Submit Construction/Repair request to your storyteller.
