General Rules

Picture Limits
- Character pictures are to be no larger than 500×500 pixels and 100k.
- Nameplate graphics are to be no larger than 250×150 pixels and 15k.
- Images must be fitting of the genre, i.e.: No Pok-e-Mon, no Anime, no Game of Thrones, no Star Wars, no Star Trek.
- Posting an adult image in M:WI?! will result in an immediate expulsion from the room.
- Models are approved by the Model Admin, whom also maintains the model list. The Model Admin may remove models from inactive characters after 30 days. Model Admin has final say on all model approvals, including model changes. With two exceptions:
- Characters at times may be considered by their storyteller to be ‘too much’ for a Live Action Model. In those rare times a storyteller can deny a character the option of having both a comic and real life model.
- Canon Movie Models. Any scenario involving the changing of a Movie Model, requires approval of the HOST.
- Respect:
- This is a game where those who don’t wish to RP with others, don’t have to. However, expect all players participating in an open Event (SM) to participate with each other, through the Game Master.
- Passive aggressive comments; baiting; vulgarity; spoilers; snide commentary about someone’s RP; OOC/IC rude commentary; engaging in a public argument; personal, political, or religious conversation that disrupts roleplay, are all some examples of disrespectful behavior.
- Respect the system. Some rules are case by case, especially those rules regarding character creation. Remember that we try to apply the rules uniformly, but in order to haveĀ a fluid game we also must have a fluid system.
- If you argue with a Staff member in public, in room or on forum, you will be suspended for 24 hours. Even if you are right, in reference to what you are arguing about, you will still be suspended for arguing in public with a Staff Member.
- If you believe that someone is breaking the rules and ‘getting away with it’, or if you believe that someone among the staff is treating you unfairly, please contact Michele.
- Please be aware that we no longer handle any form of chatter vs chatter issues, unless it does in fact deal with the rules, stats, or a storyline. Further we believe the accused has the right to face his accuser, anonymous complaints will most likely be untouched. (We do reserve the right to respect anonymity if the situation merits.)
- SM/RP’s:
- If host or staff members are involved in, or running an SM/RP for the room, contact for non-SM/RP business purposes is expressly prohibited. You may of course ask if the Staff member is available for chat, as we don’t expect everyone to know who is RPing at all times.
- RP is allowable in a PR for “Marvel: What If?” characters to have private meetings whose contents would not be known to anyone not attending said meeting, but only if the actions in this meeting do not have effect on a current SL. Anything involving major plot points must be done in room for the ST’s access to the information.
- Alternately, if a private meeting is wished that affects a current SL, participants are to inform the Staff of such, and log things appropriately so that the ST in charge of the SL is in the know.
- Any RP that could feasibly be witnessed and end up on either the news or in the National Enquirer is not suitable for PR play (exception being sexual oriented RP, bearing in mind the site’s cyber-sex rules).
- Godmoding & Power Gaming:
- If you are called on Godmoding, use dice, or ask a member of admin for help. Marvel: What If? recognizes there are several gaming systems, some that people are more familiar and comfortable with. Officially we adopted the MSHAG (Marvel Super Heroes Adventure Game), if you are unfamiliar with this system we can point you to various online resources.
- Godmoding is seen as the attempt to ignore the power levels of another, crossing ooc knowledge into ic actions, self rp, or continue to play a character undamaged despite the calls made through regular role-playing.
- Posting or using stats other than those that have been approved for a character is grounds for immediate removal of that character’s approved status.
- Team Rules:
- There are two types of bases. Team Bases, and Player Bases.
- Team Bases: Bases that are owned, and used by a team. Teams have storytellers, and only the ST of the team can give you permission to enter the base ICly. Team Base is a base that obviously is restricted in use to specific teams. (Examples: Triskellion, the Lower Levels of the Xavier Academy.)
- Player Bases: A player base is a “Base” that is owned by a Player Character. It is common courtesy to not railroad into another player’s domain for many reasons, such as the player may have established defenses that thwart invasion.
- Breaching the base rule can result in scene being voided, or character’s being revoked.
- There are two types of bases. Team Bases, and Player Bases.
- The Forum:
- The Forum is meant to be for people to post their opinions without having to feel that they’re going to get shot down regardless. However, it is not an invitation to whine and cry when someone either disagrees with your post, or correct you about known facts. The room has a tendency to be VERY candid when it comes to fact vs. fiction. This is where muns have to be careful that they are well informed, or read carefully, because it may result in someone saying “I’m sorry, you are wrong”. Regardless, it will always come as politely as possible.
- The Forum is not a complaint forum. Open Complaint on a Chatter (be they player, host, storyteller…etc) will be considered inflammatory, subsequent to deletion and possible disciplinary action.
Please respect the fact that all members of the room Admin are Human. Not all members of the staff interpret each rule exactly the same way. Rule interpretation is therefor left in the hands of the Host.
