What does MSHAG Stand For?
MSHAG is the acronym for “Marvel Super Heroes Adventure Game.” The short hand version, or simply “Marvel” will be used throughout this database.
What is MSHAG?
MSHAG is one of the best super-hero RPGs. Unfortunately, because the game books are no longer in print, it is likely that you will have to remain one of the many who does not have a copy yourself. You may, of course, find a used copy in your local comic book store if they have any on hand. If not, there is no need to worry. Everything that you would need to know regarding the system, as it is used in Marvel: What if?, can be found on this site - along with rosters for Marvel’s popular heroes and villains. The roster is not, nor could it ever be, complete. However, it is as comprehensive as we can make it.
There’s enough material on this site to get a basic understanding of the system rules and how the game is played. There is also a section outlining ideas for how to create your own heroes or villains. You can learn to play just from the material you’ll find here. A fate deck is not required, nor are your own dice. [Dice are provided via the chat room interface, and “Fate” is handled by the players and storytellers - in a more narrative like setting. ]
Whose System is This?
The Marvel game was published by Wizards of the Coast. It was based on their SAGA game system (which was also used for Dragonlance). Unfortunately, Wizards of the Coast decided to focus all of their efforts on the new edition of D&D and subsequently abandoned SAGA (as well as MSHAG). However, information on the system can still be found on the web, as it has a large following in spite of the lack of actual hard, book, copies.
